Trunk release solenoids

A solenoid is an electro-magnet with a pull rod. Send it 12 volts and it yanks the rod, which is exactly what's needed to trip a manual trunk latch. Fit one and your trunk opens from the remote or from a button inside the car instead of a key or a lever.

They're also the standard part for shaved door handle builds, where the solenoid does the whole job of releasing the door.

Standard or heavy duty?

Most trunk lids open fine on a standard solenoid. Step up to heavy duty where the lid is heavy, the latch has stiffened with age, or the solenoid is opening a door rather than a trunk. Under-specifying is the usual mistake here, and the symptom is a latch that opens most of the time but not reliably in the cold.

You will need a relay

This is the part people miss. A solenoid draws far more current than a remote starter's auxiliary output is designed to supply, so it must be wired through a relay rather than connected directly. Do it directly and you risk destroying the module's output.
