The wired workhorse. Six high-voltage contact plates and an ultrasonic speaker, powered by your vehicle's 12 V battery. It switches off when the ignition is on, and it cuts out automatically if the battery drops below about 11.5 V, so a vehicle that sits won't be left with a flat battery.
German-engineered, e1 approved and compatible with CAN bus vehicles. Average draw is under 5 mA.
A capacitor charges the plates to roughly 200 to 300 V. A rodent that touches a plate gets a sharp, non-lethal shock, and the plate recharges for the next one. The plates work when the animal is also in contact with the vehicle's body, so placement matters: put them at the points where rodents climb into the engine bay.
The ultrasonic speaker runs at about 22 kHz, up to about 100 dB. Treat the sound as a supporting layer. Rodents get used to sound on its own, and the plates do the real work.

This is a wiring job. The unit needs permanent 12 V power, a ground, and an ignition wire that switches it off while you drive. Mount it with self-tapping screws or cable ties, away from exhaust heat and moving parts.
Before anyone works in the engine bay, pull the unit's fuse and give the plates a minute to discharge.
