See how it works

How a finder tag finds your stuff

No GPS and no SIM. It works through your phone and the phones around it. Here's what that means at home, when you leave something behind, and when a car is stolen.

Keys gone again, and your phone is in the same room.

How often a lost tag updates depends on how many phones pass by. Google's Find Hub only reports from busy places unless the phone owners change a setting.

    Straight answers

What a finder tag is, and what it isn't

    • It's a Bluetooth finder, not a GPS tracker. It has no SIM and can't report on its own; it relies on phones passing by.
    • It isn't theft protection. iPhones and Android phones warn people when an unknown tag is travelling with them, so a thief can find it and throw it away.
    • It works with one phone platform at a time: Apple's Find My or Google's Find Hub, not both at once.
    • Location updates depend on phones nearby. In a busy place it updates often; on a quiet road it may not update for hours.
    • It isn't a child-safety, pet or medical tracker. It can help find their things, nothing more.
    Setting it up

iPhone or Android: two minutes either way

iPhone: turn on Bluetooth, hold the tag's button for 2 seconds until it beeps, then open Find My, tap + and Add Other Item, and follow the steps.

Android 9 or later: install Find Hub from Google Play if it isn't on your phone, turn on Bluetooth and location, hold the tag's button for 2 seconds, and tap Connect when the pop-up appears.

To move a tag from one phone platform to the other, remove it from the app and reset it: hold the button through the tones until the long beep.

    Batteries

A year on a coin cell

The coin tag, the keychain and the watch run on a CR2032 coin cell, rated by KEETEC for about a year on standby. Your phone tells you when it's low, and a fresh CR2032 costs a few dollars. The wallet card is rechargeable instead: lay it on a wireless charging pad. Keep coin cells away from young children.

TAG Tracking & Stolen Vehicle Recovery System - Includes Installation
    For the car itself

Want the car tracked if it's stolen?

A finder tag is for lost things. For a stolen car, TAG is hidden and wired into the vehicle at our Markham shop, so a thief's phone can't warn them about it and it reports the car itself. Pair it with an immobilizer so the car can't be driven away in the first place.

    Finder tag questions

Do these work with Android phones?

Yes. Every tag here works with Google Find Hub on Android phones running Android 9 or later with Google Play services, and with Apple Find My on iPhone. You set it up with one or the other.

Is this the same as an AirTag?

It does the same job, and it also works with Android. An AirTag only works with Apple devices. These tags use Apple's Find My network when set up on an iPhone, or Google's Find Hub network on Android. They don't have the AirTag's Ultra Wideband "precision finding" arrow; you find them nearby by their sound.

Can one tag work with an iPhone and an Android phone at the same time?

No. A tag joins one network at a time, Apple's or Google's. To move it to the other, remove it from the app it's in and reset it (hold the button through the tones until the long beep), then set it up on the other phone.

Will a finder tag help if my car is stolen?

Don't count on it. iPhones and Android phones warn people when an unknown tag is travelling with them, so a thief is told it's there and can toss it. For a stolen car, TAG Tracking is hidden and wired in, and an immobilizer stops the car being driven away.

    Is there a monthly fee?

No. They use the free Find My and Find Hub apps that come with your phone. There's no subscription and no account with us.

How far away can I find it?

Up close, as far as your phone's Bluetooth reaches: usually the same house, office or parking lot, where you can make it beep. Beyond that, it shows where it was last seen, wherever a passing iPhone or Android phone picked it up. Busy places update often; quiet places may not update for hours.

    What battery does it take?

The BT-01 coin tag, the BT-02 keychain and the BT-04 watch use a CR2032 coin cell, rated by KEETEC for about a year on standby; we sell CR2032 cells. The BT-03 wallet card has a built-in rechargeable battery that charges on a wireless charging pad (not included).

Can I use one to keep track of my kids or my pet?

It can help find their things, but it isn't a child-safety or pet tracker. It has no GPS, no SIM and no SOS button, and it only updates when phones pass by. For a person or a pet, use a device made for that job.

    Do you ship across Canada?
