Digital or analogue: which instructions to follow

The ASDS-7506, ASDS-3520, ASRS-3520 and ASDS-1554 remotes work with both Autostart Digital and Autostart Analogue remote starters, so check which module your vehicle has before you program.

  • Digital modules: the module number is DS4, DS3, DB-ALL or DB-ALL2. Use the digital programming guides.
  • Analogue modules: the module number starts with AS-. Use the analogue programming guide. Analogue modules need a working hood pin to program.

Programming needs a working hood pin

Analogue Autostart modules, and some other brands like Astrostart, need a hood pin input before they'll let you program a remote or change features. A hood pin is a plunger switch that tells the system whether the hood is open or closed.

Hood pins live under the hood near heat, water, dirt and road salt, so they often fail. Mechanics can also bend or break them by closing the hood on them. If programming won't start, check the pin: if the terminal where the wire connects is rusty or dirty, clean it or replace the pin. Replacement hood pins are here.
