Which steps to follow for your remote

Your remote and your system decide the steps. The remote's model number is on its back or inside the battery cover. The system's name (EVO-ONE, EVO-X-ONE, EVO-ALL or EVO-START2) is on the control module under the dash and on your install paperwork.

  • Four-button remotesThe RM441, RM442, RM942, FTX84 and FTX642W, on an EVO-ONE or EVO-X-ONE. Put the system in programming mode, then tap two buttons on each remote.
  • One-button remotesThe RM411 and RM912, on an EVO-ONE. Put the system in programming mode, then hold the button about 12 seconds.
  • FTXDUOThe add-on remote for the EVO-START2 has its own steps, further down.
  • EVO-ALLPairing a remote means getting to the module under the dash, so it's a job for an installer.

Not sure which system you have? Submit a support ticket with your vehicle and the remote's model number and we'll tell you.

More answers for the Remotes

Before you start
  • Unlock the car firstPress unlock on your factory key so the system is disarmed. The light on the windshield antenna must not be flashing when you start. An armed system won't take a new remote.
  • Have every remote with youThe system holds up to 4 remotes. Pairing a new one doesn't erase the others, but a fifth replaces the first one paired.
  • Push-to-start carsTurn the ignition ON without pressing the brake, so the engine doesn't start. Don't start the engine at any point.
  • The brake pedal countsSome steps use the brake pedal. If the system doesn't react to it, it can't see the brake, and an installer needs to check that.
Put an EVO-ONE or EVO-X-ONE in programming mode
  • 1. Ignition ONKey to RUN, or press the start button without the brake. Don't start the engine.
  • 2. Ignition OFFTurn the ignition off.
  • 3. Ignition ON againTurn it back on. The light on the windshield antenna turns on.
  • 4. Brake four timesPress and release the brake pedal four times. The antenna light flashes quickly: the system is ready for your remotes.

Now pair each remote with the steps for your remote below. When you are done, turn the ignition OFF to leave programming mode.

EVO-ONE with a valet button (sold separately): with the ignition ON, hold the valet button until the parking lights come on and the horn chirps, press and release it five times (the lights flash and the horn chirps each time), then press the brake once. The antenna light flashes quickly.

Four-button remotes: RM441, RM442, RM942, FTX84 and FTX642W

With the antenna light flashing quickly, on each remote:

  • RM441, RM442 and FTX84Press and release the − button (or the + button), then press and release LOCK.
  • RM942Press and release the + button, then press and release LOCK.
  • FTX642WPress and release the − button, then press and release LOCK.

Tap the buttons, don't hold them. The antenna light stops flashing for a second to confirm that remote. Pair the next one the same way, then turn the ignition OFF and test every remote.

One-button remotes: RM411 and RM912

With the antenna light flashing quickly, on each remote:

  • 1. Hold the buttonPress and hold the remote's button, about 12 seconds.
  • 2. Watch its lightThe blue light on the remote turns off, then comes back on solid. Let go then. In daylight the blue can be hard to see.
  • 3. ConfirmedThe antenna light stops flashing for a second: that remote is paired.

Pair the next remote the same way, then turn the ignition OFF and test. These steps are from Fortin's EVO-ONE guides. On an EVO-X-ONE, if the remote doesn't pair, submit a support ticket.

FTXDUO on an EVO-START2
  • 1. Ignition ONYou then have 5 seconds to start step 2.
  • 2. Programming modeWithout a valet button: ignition OFF, ignition ON, then press the brake four times. With a valet button: hold it until the parking lights come on and the horn chirps, press it five times, then press the brake once.
  • 3. Pair the FTXDUOThe EVO-START2 antenna flashes blue quickly. On each FTXDUO, press and release the − button, then press and release LOCK. The antenna light stops flashing for a second to confirm.
  • 4. FinishTurn the ignition OFF and test.

These are the steps for an EVO-START2 on an EVO-ONE. On any other setup, submit a support ticket.

EVO-ALL systems

On an EVO-ALL, pairing a remote means unplugging a connector on the control module under the dash and holding its programming button while you plug it back in. That's installer work, so we don't suggest doing it yourself. Book a service appointment and we'll pair your remotes, or your installer can follow the EVO-ALL guides under Manuals and guides.

Remote didn't pair? Quick checks
  • The system was armedUnlock with your factory key and start again. The antenna light must not be flashing before step 1.
  • No quick flashingIf the antenna light never flashed quickly, start again from step 1. If it still won't go into programming mode, the system may not be seeing the brake pedal, and an installer needs to check it.
  • Buttons held too longOn four-button remotes, tap each button for under half a second.
  • Let go too earlyOn one-button remotes, keep holding until the blue light comes back on solid.
  • Weak batteryPut a fresh battery in the remote and try again.
Batteries

The battery each remote takes, from Fortin's guides:

  • RM411 and RM912One CR2016.
  • RM442 and RM942Two CR2016.
  • RM441, FTX84 and FTXDUOOne CR2032.
  • FTX642WTwo CR2025.

A flat battery and a dead remote behave the same, so try a fresh one first. Shop key fob batteries.

Which remotes and antennas these steps cover

433 MHz remotes on the ANT-FMH-2W antenna (FCC ID 2ACKU-A2W01FM): RM411 (FCC ID 2ACKU-RM411), RM441 (2ACKU-RM441), RM442 (2ACKU-RM442), FTX84 (2ACKU-R1W02FM) and FTX642W (2ACKU-R2W01FM).

900 MHz remotes on the ANT900 antenna (FCC ID 2ACKU-ANT900): RM912 (2ACKU-RM912) and RM942 (2ACKU-RM942). They can share one antenna, up to 4 remotes in total.

The FTXDUO (FCC ID 2ACKU-R1W01FSS) pairs to the EVO-START2 antenna.

The RFK411, RFK441, RFK442, RFK912 and RFK942 kits come with remotes and an antenna. Once the antenna is installed, the remotes pair the same way.
