Our verdict

A Faraday bag is the cheapest anti-theft step there is, and against relay attacks it works. Bag your keyless key the moment you get home, bag the spare too, and test it at the car once so you know it's doing its job. Know its limit: thieves who wire into the headlight or program a new key through the OBD port don't need your key at all. If your vehicle is one they target, pair the bag with a hidden immobilizer.

Keep your key in this bag whenever you're not driving, and relay thieves have no signal to pick up. The lining blocks your key's signal in both directions: the car's call can't reach the key, and the key can't answer.

How a relay attack works, and how the bag stops it

Two thieves, two boxes, no key needed. Watch it happen, then put the key in the bag and watch again.

      Our advice

      How a relay attack works

Our guide walks through the attack step by step, which cars are at risk, how to test your bag, and where a bag falls short.

      The details

Keep your key in this bag whenever you're not driving, and relay thieves have no signal to pick up. Its lining blocks radio signals in both directions: the car's request can't reach your key, and your key can't answer. It's sized for a car key fob; a phone won't fit.

      Why keyless cars need one

If your car unlocks when you touch the handle with the key in your pocket, it has keyless entry. Relay thieves work in pairs: one stands at your car, the other holds a relay box against your house. Your key answers through the boxes, and the car opens and starts as if you were beside it. With the key in this bag, it never hears the car.

      How to use it

      • Put the key in and fold the flap fully closed.
      • Bag it as soon as you're home, and bag the spare too.
      • Take the key out to drive. With push-button start, the car can't find a bagged key either.

      Test it in 10 seconds

With the key in the bag and the flap closed, stand at the driver's door and pull the handle. The car should stay locked. Take the key out and it should unlock. If the car opens with the key sealed inside, the lining is worn and it's time for a new bag.

      What it won't stop

A bag protects your key's signal, not the car. Thieves who wire into the headlight (CAN injection) or program a new key through the OBD port don't need your key. For that, a hidden immobilizer stops the engine starting without your PIN or tag. See our anti-theft systems.

      For lost keys

Bag at home, finder tag on the go

The Faraday bag stops relay thieves while the keys are at home. A finder tag helps when the keys go missing: ring them from your phone, or see where they were last seen. They do different jobs, and neither one replaces an immobilizer.

      Common questions

Will it work with my car?

If your car unlocks when you touch the handle with the key in your pocket, it has keyless entry, and that's the system relay thieves use. The bag blocks it. Test it once at the car to be sure.

      How do I test it?

Put the key in, fold the flap fully closed and stand at the driver's door. Pull the handle: the car should stay locked. Press unlock on the key through the bag: nothing should happen. Then take the key out and try again; the car should unlock, which shows the test was fair.

      How many do I need?

One for every keyless key, including the spare. A spare in a kitchen drawer can be relayed just as easily, and it's the one people forget.

Does it stop all car theft?

No. It stops relay attacks only. Thieves who use CAN injection through the headlight wiring, or program a new key through the OBD port, don't need your key at all. A hidden immobilizer stops the engine starting either way, because it wants your PIN or tag, not the car's key.

Do I take the key out to drive?

Yes. With push-button start, the car can't find a key in the bag either, so take it out to drive and put it back when you park.

      Will it lower my insurance?

Don't count on it. CAA's high-theft surcharge criteria, in effect from July 1, 2026, exclude Faraday accessories from the accessory discount. What CAA recognizes is a professionally installed hidden immobilizer, which removes the surcharge. See CAA approved anti-theft systems, and check with your own insurer.

How do I know when it's worn out?

Test it every few months. If the car unlocks with the key sealed inside and the flap fully closed, the lining is worn. Replace the bag.

      Do you ship across Canada?

Yes. Shipping is free in Canada on orders over $200, and smaller orders ship for a flat $10. We also ship to the US and worldwide; US orders may be charged duties at checkout.
