This is the HE-7846 polycarbonate hood pin switch.

A mechanical plunger switch, most often used as the hood pin on a remote starter install. Its job is simple and important: tell the system the hood is open so the engine cannot be remote started while someone is working under it.

The shaft is polycarbonate rather than metal, which is the better material for a part living in an engine bay through Canadian winters. The threaded mounting shaft is nickel plated to resist corrosion, though it's still worth lubricating occasionally.
