Audi Q5 - Push Button Start - Remote Starters - Fits 2025, 2026

There's no remote starter for the new-generation Audi Q5 yet, and the reason is FlexRay. On this Q5, the signal from the brake switch is sent over FlexRay, a newer communication protocol than the ones remote starters are built for. No remote starter or other aftermarket electronic device can communicate over FlexRay today.

A push-button Q5 won't start unless it sees that brake signal, so until Fortin, iDatastart or Compustar can talk FlexRay, none of their remote starters can start it. The same goes for the new SQ5 and Q5 Sportback.

We don't have a remote starter for this vehicle yet.

What about a pedal actuator?

Some installers get around FlexRay with a mechanical actuator that physically presses the brake pedal when the remote starter runs. We won't fit one. A device pushing the brake pedal of a vehicle with nobody in it isn't safe, and no remote start is worth that risk.

Which 2025 Q5 do you have?

Audi Canada sold both generations of the Q5 as 2025 models, so check yours before you give up on a remote starter.

  • New generation, 2025–2026 One wide, curved screen runs from behind the steering wheel to the middle of the dash. This is the FlexRay one we can't fit yet.
  • Previous generation, 2025 The touchscreen stands on its own on top of the dash, and the trim name usually carries a number, like 45 TFSI or 55 TFSI e. Send us your trim and we'll check it against our 2018–2024 kits.
  • 2018–2024 Covered, with a plug-and-play kit. See the kit we recommend

Why there's no remote starter for it yet

It isn't that we haven't looked. Here's how a remote starter for a vehicle like this comes about.

How it works

Every vehicle needs its own interface

A modern remote starter has to talk to the vehicle's own computers to start it, unlock it and keep the factory anti-theft system happy. Fortin, iDatastart and Compustar build and test that interface one vehicle platform at a time.

The hold-up

New electronics mean starting over

When a vehicle moves to all-new electronics, the interfaces for the old ones stop working and the work starts again. Some vehicles get a solution in months, some take years, and a few never get one.

Our rule

We only sell what we know works

Universal kits, improvised wiring and mechanical workarounds can set off warning lights, drain the battery, upset the security system or simply be unsafe. We won't put that in your vehicle, and we won't sell it to you to fit yourself.

What we can do for it today

None of these depend on the vehicle's electronics the way a remote starter does, so they go in new vehicles too. All three can be installed at our Markham shop.

Common questions

When will there be a remote starter for it?

We can't give you a date, and we'd be wary of anyone who does. It's up to the manufacturers, and some vehicles take months while others take years. Join the list above and you'll hear from us when we have one we trust.

Can't you fit a universal remote starter?

Not on a vehicle like this. Push-button vehicles need a vehicle-specific interface to start the engine and keep the anti-theft system working. Without one, a universal kit can't start it properly, and forcing it can cause faults we won't risk on your vehicle.

Will a kit for earlier years of the same model work?

No. Kits for earlier years are built for the earlier electronics. On the new generation they won't work, and they can upset the vehicle's computers.

Doesn't it have factory remote start?

It might. Some manufacturers offer remote start through their app or a connected-services plan, and what's included changes by model, year and country. Check the manufacturer's app, or ask your dealer what yours supports.

Another shop says they can do it. Should I believe them?

Ask which brand and which product they're installing, then check that the manufacturer lists your exact year and model. If a tested solution exists that we've missed, tell us and we'll look into it straight away.

Got a question about your vehicle?

Send us your year, model and trim and we'll tell you straight what's possible.
