This is the labour to install an LDS rodent deterrent, the M186 or the M229, on a vehicle where the entry points are underneath or behind the wheel-well liners.

What it costs and how long it takes

  • Flat rate for the labour
  • Two hours for most vehicles
  • At our Markham shop only. Level 2 isn't done on-site
  • Same day — by appointment, so your vehicle goes straight onto a bay
  • Backed by our lifetime installation warranty

What's included

  • Removing and refitting the splash shield, the fender liners, or both, to reach the lower entry points
  • Mounting the control unit in a dry spot, away from exhaust heat and moving parts, with its speaker aimed into the engine bay
  • Placing the six contact plates at the entry points above and below, clear of metal, conductive hoses and hot parts
  • On the M186: wiring it to constant power, ground and an ignition circuit, so it switches off while you drive
  • On the M229: fitting its batteries and switching it on
  • Fitting the high-voltage warning label and checking that the plates charge
  • Showing you how to switch it off before anyone works in the engine bay

Why it costs more than Level 1

The deterrent is the same. The access isn't. On many newer vehicles the engine bay is closed in underneath, and the openings rodents use are behind the liners. Getting to them, placing the plates properly and putting every panel back takes about another hour. If your vehicle can be done from above, it's Level 1 (RODENT1-Install), and we'll tell you which applies before we start.

Wrapping at the same visit

With the liners and splash shield off, the harnesses behind them are right there. Add capsaicin wrapping (RODENTWRAP-Install) and your wrapping time goes into wrapping: the panels only come off once, and you only pay for that once.

Which install do I need?

Rodents already moved in? The nest has to come out before anything goes in: RODENTNEST-Removal. Wiring already chewed? Repairs are quoted once we've seen the damage, at our hourly rate. Browse rodent protection.

Bringing your own equipment?

Contact us before you book. Whether we can fit equipment you bought elsewhere depends on the product and your vehicle, so we decide case by case. We can't diagnose faults in hardware we didn't supply without a separate troubleshooting charge.

Booking

Add this to your order and we'll contact you after checkout to arrange a time at our Markham shop. You don't need to call ahead. Level 2 installs are done at the shop only, not at your home or work. If you'd rather book first, use our booking page to request a time.

One thing worth knowing

No deterrent is guaranteed to stop every animal every time, which is why we pair plates with capsaicin tape on the harnesses they've already found. On 24 V trucks the M186 needs a 24 V to 12 V converter, charged separately. If we find chewed wiring while we're in there, we'll show you and quote the repair before doing any work.
