Factory radio guide

Infiniti & Nissan factory radios: which one do you have?

Every CarPlay, Android Auto or camera interface is made for one specific factory screen, so knowing yours saves you from ordering the wrong kit. The quickest checks are whether you have factory navigation (press MAP), how many screens are in the dash, and your model year. If you're still not sure, call us and we'll help.

  1. 2007-2012 (most models 2008-2010)

    Factory navigation, early generation

Infiniti and Nissan factory navigation with a built-in hard drive, first generation

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • A colour touchscreen high in the centre of the dash, with a round controller and a row of buttons below it.
    • MAP and DEST buttons. Press MAP: a moving map with your car on it means you have factory navigation.
    • Your model year decides the generation. Most models move to the later system for 2010, the M, QX56, Murano and GT-R for 2011, and the Armada and Pathfinder for 2013.

    Quick check on the screen

Press MAP or DEST. A map or a destination screen means factory navigation. Then find your model and year on this list to confirm the generation.

    • Nissan Maxima 2009
    • Nissan GT-R 2009-2010
    • Nissan 370Z coupe and roadster 2009

    Don't confuse it with

The later navigation system looks almost the same, so your model year is the only reliable way to tell them apart. A colour screen with no MAP or DEST button is the non-navigation system.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

GROM VLine NIS8VL2 adds wired or wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to your factory screen, and your touchscreen and steering wheel buttons keep working. It connects behind the radio and screen, so part of the dash comes apart for the install. Factory navigation is required, and adding an aftermarket camera takes an extra GROM cable.

  2. 2010-2017 (varies by model)

    Factory navigation, later generation

Infiniti and Nissan factory navigation with a built-in hard drive, second generation

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • One colour touchscreen in the dash, with a round controller and buttons below it.
    • MAP and DEST buttons. Press MAP and a moving map comes up.
    • Your model and year are on this list. The early system looks the same, so the year is what tells them apart.

    Quick check on the screen

Press MAP. A map means factory navigation. If your model and year are on this list, you have the later generation.

    • Nissan GT-R 2011-2016
    • Nissan 370Z coupe and roadster 2010-2017

    Don't confuse it with

The early system looks the same, so go by model year. Two stacked screens means InTouch, and a 2017 or newer QX60 or Pathfinder, or a 2018 or newer QX80 or Armada, has the newer 8-inch screen.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

GROM VLine NIS9VL2 covers every model on this list with factory navigation, using your factory touchscreen. ZZ-2 IT2-INF-Q70 is another option for the QX60 (2014-2016) and the Q70 (2017 and later) with factory navigation, and it adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto plus front and rear camera inputs. Neither kit works without factory navigation, and we recommend professional installation.

  3. 2007-2015

    Colour screen, no navigation (Infiniti)

Infiniti factory stereo with a colour screen but no navigation, including the iPod-ready stereo

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • A colour screen in the dash shows audio, settings and often the backup camera. You work it mostly with the round controller and buttons.
    • There's no MAP or DEST button, and no map anywhere in the menus.
    • Some of these have the iPod-ready stereo, which plays and controls an iPod or USB stick plugged in at the console.

    Quick check on the screen

Look for a MAP or DEST button. If there isn't one, no menu offers a map, and you do have a colour screen, this is your system.

    • Infiniti FX35/FX45/FX50 2009-2013
    • Infiniti Q40 2015

    Don't confuse it with

Navigation cars from the same years look almost the same but have MAP and DEST buttons. A car with only a small text display and no colour screen has the basic radio.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

GROM VLine NISKVL2 adds CarPlay and Android Auto to the colour screen in the Infiniti models listed here, so check that your car has the colour screen before ordering. Our other Infiniti kits need factory navigation. We don't have a kit for Nissans without navigation, so call us if that's your car.

  4. About 2002-2015 (base trims)

    Basic radio, no colour screen

Infiniti and Nissan basic factory radio with a text-only display

    No plug-in kit

    How to tell

    • Only a small one- or two-line text display, with no colour picture and no camera image.
    • Many have CAT, SAT, CH or CHANNEL printed on the radio face, near the tune or seek buttons.

    Found in

    • Infiniti G, EX, FX, M, QX56, Q40 and Q60 base trims without a colour screen (varies by trim)
    • Nissan Altima, Sentra, Versa, Rogue, Frontier, Titan, Xterra and other models without navigation, about 2002-2015

    Don't confuse it with

Some Infinitis without navigation still have a real colour screen, which is a different system. Having no navigation doesn't tell you whether you have a screen, so look at the display itself.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

CarPlay and camera interfaces need a factory colour screen to show on, so none of our kits fit this radio. You can add Bluetooth and USB with an adapter, or replace the radio with an aftermarket CarPlay stereo. Call us and we'll tell you which suits your car.

  5. 2014-2019 (2020 and newer have CarPlay built in)

    InTouch dual screen

Infiniti InTouch with two stacked touchscreens, with or without navigation

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • Two screens stacked in the centre of the dash. The upper one sits deeper and shows the map, camera or info pages.
    • The lower one is a touchscreen with audio, climate and app icons.
    • There's also an InTouch control knob with buttons close by.
    • A 2020 or newer car looks the same, but CarPlay is already built in.

    Quick check on the screen

Count the screens: two means InTouch. Then plug your phone in with a USB cable. If CarPlay or Android Auto starts, your car already has it. For ZZ-2 ITZ-NIF, also check that the upper screen shows a factory map.

    Found in

    • Infiniti Q50 2014-2019
    • Infiniti Q60 coupe 2017-2019 (new shape)
    • Infiniti QX50 2019 (new shape)

    Don't confuse it with

The 2014-2015 Q60 is the older G coupe with one screen, so it uses the single-screen navigation kits. A 2020 or newer Q50, Q60 or QX50 looks the same but already has CarPlay.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

ZZ-2 IT2-INF-Q fits the 2015-2019 Q50, the 2017-2019 Q60 and the new-shape QX50, and ZZ-2 ITZ-NIF fits the same cars if they have factory navigation. These are expert installs: the screen is taken apart and a circuit board is fitted inside, and on some cars you control CarPlay by touch only, not with the knob. For a 2014 Q50, call us, and on a 2020 or newer car check first, because CarPlay is probably already there.

  6. 2017-2020

    8-inch navigation touchscreen (2017-2020)

NissanConnect and Infiniti InTouch single 8-inch touchscreen with factory navigation, refreshed generation

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • A single 8-inch colour touchscreen in the centre of the dash, on a refreshed Pathfinder or QX60 (2017 on) or Armada or QX80 (2018 on).
    • It has a MAP button and shows a map. A car with this screen but no factory map isn't covered.
    • On a QX60, check the build date on the driver's door-jamb sticker. It must be before June 2020.

    Quick check on the screen

Press MAP to confirm factory navigation. On a QX60, read the build month and year on the driver's door-jamb sticker. Then plug in your phone: if CarPlay or Android Auto starts, you don't need a kit.

    Found in

    • Nissan Pathfinder 2017-2019
    • Nissan Armada 2018-2019
    • Infiniti QX60 2017-2020 (built before June 2020)
    • Infiniti QX80 2018-2019

    Don't confuse it with

The 2013-2016 Pathfinder, 2014-2016 QX60, 2017 Armada and 2014-2017 QX80 have the older navigation system with a different screen. The two-screen Q50, Q60 and QX50 are InTouch dual screen.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

ZZ-2 ITZ-NIF adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and it needs factory navigation (a QX60 must be built before June 2020). It's an expert install: the screen comes out and is opened on the bench to swap in the kit's circuit board. You control CarPlay with the touchscreen, and some later cars may already have CarPlay, so check first.
