Q: How do I know an accessory works with my dash cam?

Q: Do I need a hardwire kit?

For parking mode, yes. In most vehicles the cigarette lighter outlet switches off with the ignition, so the camera stops recording when you park. A hardwire kit connects to the fuse box, keeps the camera recording while you're parked and shuts it off before your battery gets too low to start the car. See our hardwire kits .

Q: Can I add a rear camera to the dash cam I already have?

If your camera supports one. Add-on cameras only work with the dash cam they're made for, so a Thinkware rear camera won't connect to a Viofo. Pick your camera in the finder above, or browse our rear, interior and side cameras .

Q: Battery pack or hardwire kit?

A hardwire kit is enough for most drivers. It runs parking mode from your car's battery and cuts off before the battery runs low, which limits how long the camera records while parked. A battery pack charges while you drive and powers parking mode on its own, so the camera records for much longer without touching your starting battery. Q: What does a CPL filter do?

It cuts windshield glare. A circular polarizing filter fits over the lens and removes the reflection of the dashboard on the glass, so plates and road detail stay readable in bright sun. See our CPL filters .

Q: Can I check my dash cam from my phone when I'm away from the car?

Yes, with a cloud-ready camera and an LTE module. The module puts the camera online for live view, impact alerts and footage downloads from wherever the vehicle is parked. See our LTE modules and cloud dash cameras .

What size memory card do I need?

128GB for a 4K front and rear camera, 256GB for three or more cameras. Use a high-endurance card, since a standard card wears out within months of constant recording, and check your camera's maximum card size on its product page. See our memory cards.
