Factory radio guide

Volvo factory radios: which one do you have?

Volvo used several different radios between 2010 and 2018, and our CarPlay and Android Auto kits fit only one of them: Sensus Connect. The fastest check is the buttons on your centre stack. A NAV button plus a button with a globe symbol means you have Sensus Connect.

  1. 2015-2018

    Sensus Connect 7-inch

Volvo Sensus Connect, 7-inch dashboard screen with NAV and globe (internet) buttons

    CarPlay kit available

    How to tell

    • A 7-inch colour screen high in the middle of the dash. It doesn't respond to touch: you use the knob and buttons on the centre stack and steering wheel.
    • A NAV button and a button with a globe symbol on the centre stack.
    • Pressing the globe button opens internet apps such as music streaming, parking or local search.
    • Model year 2015 or newer on an S60, V60, XC60, S80 or XC70.

    Found in

    • S60 2015-2018
    • V60 2015-2018
    • XC60 2015-2017
    • S80 2015-2016
    • XC70 2015-2016

    Don't confuse it with

Earlier Sensus cars and base audio look much the same but have no globe button. Newer Volvos have a tall 9-inch touchscreen instead.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

With both NAV and globe buttons, either the ZZ-2 IT3-VOLVO or the GROM VOLSCVL2 fits. With a globe button but no NAV button, choose the GROM VOLSCVL2, which is also the one for the XC70. Because the screen isn't touch, you run CarPlay with the knob and buttons, and both kits add front and rear camera inputs.

  2. 2011-2014

    Sensus (2011-2014)

Volvo Sensus before Sensus Connect, 5- or 7-inch dashboard screen, some with Sensus Navigation

    No plug-in kit

    How to tell

    • The same dashboard screen and centre stack layout as Sensus Connect.
    • No globe button on the centre stack.
    • Model year 2014 or older.

    Found in

    • S60 2011-2014
    • XC60 2011-2014
    • S80 2011-2014
    • XC70 2011-2014

    Don't confuse it with

Sensus Connect, which has the globe button. Volvo updated the software on some 2014 cars, so go by the button rather than the menus.

The ZZ-2 IT3-VOLVO and GROM VOLSCVL2 don't fit this system. Call us before you buy anything and we'll check what's possible for your car.

  3. 2010-2018 (lower trims)

    Performance or High Performance audio

Volvo base Performance or High Performance audio, without Sensus Connect

    No plug-in kit

    How to tell

    • A smaller screen on the dash, about 5 inches, or a simpler radio display.
    • No NAV button and no globe button on the centre stack.
    • The audio name, Performance or High Performance, may be printed on the radio panel.

    Quick check on the screen

Your original window sticker or build sheet may list the audio system as Performance or High Performance.

    Found in

    • S60 lower trims, 2011-2018
    • V60 lower trims, 2015-2018
    • XC60 lower trims, 2010-2017
    • S80 lower trims, 2010-2016
    • XC70 lower trims, 2010-2016

    Don't confuse it with

Sensus Connect, which has a 7-inch screen with both NAV and globe buttons.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

The ZZ-2 IT3-VOLVO and GROM VOLSCVL2 don't fit, because both need Sensus Connect with the globe button. Call us if you'd like to talk through your options.

  4. 2016 and newer

    9-inch portrait touchscreen

Volvo Sensus 9-inch upright touchscreen, the tablet-style display in newer Volvos

    CarPlay usually built in

    How to tell

    • A tall 9-inch touchscreen standing upright in the middle of the dash, like a tablet.
    • Almost no buttons: a Home button below the screen and a volume knob.
    • You swipe left and right to reach more screens.

    Quick check on the screen

Plug your phone in with a USB cable. If Apple CarPlay starts, or you see it among the apps, your car already has it.

    Found in

    • XC90 2016 and newer
    • S90 and V90 2017 and newer
    • XC60 2018 and newer
    • XC40 2019 and newer
    • S60 and V60 2019 and newer

    Don't confuse it with

Sensus Connect, a wide screen high on the dash that doesn't respond to touch.

CarPlay and Android Auto for this radio

Check first: most of these cars support Apple CarPlay from the factory, and Android Auto was added later. If yours doesn't have it, that's usually a Volvo option or software question for a dealer, and the kits we carry don't fit these cars.
