How DIY Support Works

Remote starters, built around your vehicle

Every car handles remote start differently. Key-start vehicles usually need an immobilizer bypass. Push-button vehicles need a system that can talk to the car's ignition logic. Some models let your factory fob trigger the starter; others need a dedicated key fob kit. That's why we don't sell remote starters as a wall of modules. We match a solution to your exact vehicle, and the kit marked Lockdown's Choice on every vehicle page is the one we'd put in our own car.

Plug and play or hardwired?

Plug and play kits pair the controller with a vehicle-specific T-harness that plugs into your factory connectors. It cuts install time and takes most of the splicing out of the job, though on most vehicles a few connections are still made by hand. Where no harness exists, a universal module wired in by our technicians does the same job. Our installation price is the same either way.

FAQ - Common Questions

Will it work with my push-button start?

Yes. Push-button vehicles are most of what we install now. The search results are specific to key or push-button start, so pick the right one.

Do I have to carry another key fob?

Depends on the vehicle. Many support 3xLock: press lock three times on your factory fob and the car starts, at the factory fob's range (usually 150–500 ft). For longer range or phone control, add a key fob kit or smartphone controller. Your vehicle page tells you which applies.

Does it void my warranty?

No. Adding a remote starter doesn't cancel your factory warranty. A dealer can only decline a specific claim if they can show the installation caused the fault, which is why install quality matters and why we back ours for life.

How long does the install take?

Most are done the same day. We'll confirm timing when you book.

Manual transmission?
